CAASPP: CAA Test Examiner Tutorial Is Available Now in Moodle
CAASPP email update, September 11, 2023.
Dear California Educator:
The 2023–24 California Alternate Assessment (CAA) Test Examiner Tutorial is now available in the Moodle Training Site (Moodle) .
The Test Examiner Tutorial covers general information and highlights best practices for the administration of the CAA for Science and the CAAs for English language arts/literacy (ELA) and Mathematics. The tutorial does not contain any secure content but must be completed before administering the CAAs.
Accessing Moodle
A Moodle user account is necessary to access the tutorial. Your local educational agency (LEA) California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) coordinator should contact you with information about how accounts will be set up for your LEA.
As a test examiner, you will access the tutorial using the Moodle enrollment key provided by your LEA CAASPP coordinator.
Completion Requirements
The tutorial contains three sections—General Requirements, CAA for Science, and CAAs for ELA and Mathematics. All test examiners must complete the General Requirements section of the tutorial and at least one subject area section to receive a certificate of completion. To complete each section, answer all of the "Checks for Understanding" questions correctly.
Test examiners will receive the CAA for Science Certificate of Completion upon completion of both the General Requirements and the CAA for Science sections, and the CAAs for ELA and Mathematics Certificate of Completion upon completing both the General Requirements and the CAAs for ELA and Mathematics sections.
Form Assignments
Form assignments are available on the following web pages, which are searchable by county, LEA, school, or county/district/school code:
Please note that the assigned form number for science may be different than the assigned form number for ELA and mathematics.
CAA for Science Planning Guides
The CAA for Science consists of four embedded performance tasks (PTs) that should be administered one at a time in any order, beginning September 19, 2023, through the end of the school year or July 15, 2024, whichever comes first. Administration of an embedded PT should occur as soon as related instruction is taught. CAA for Science Administration Planning Guides are available to help with early planning and scheduling of the embedded PTs.
CAA for ELA Second Scoring
Second scoring is the process of having another test examiner score the same student's rubric-scored items simultaneously, yet independently, from the student's primary test examiner. The purpose of second scoring is to establish and document standardized scoring procedures and evaluate the validity of the rubric-scored items.
Some LEAs assigned to Form 2 for the CAAs for ELA will be required to participate in second scoring for test validity purposes. Second scoring assignments can be found through the Form Assignments search tool. Test examiners assigned to second score should complete the "Second Scoring"portion of the Test Examiner Tutorial.
Test examiners who have questions about the administration of the CAAs should address them to the CAASPP test site coordinator.
Sincerely,
California Outreach Team
