CAASPP and ELPAC: Accessibility Resources Asynchronous Training Available!
CAASPP email update, September 13, 2023.
Dear California Educator:
The Accessibility Resources Asynchronous Training helps educators match resources to their students' needs during both classroom instruction and assessment so that all students have access to the supports they need.
For all roles in administering the California state assessments and all levels of experience with accessibility resources, this online, self-paced training will provide valuable information about the appropriate use of accessibility resources for the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) and the English Language Proficiency Assessments for California (ELPAC).
This training will dispel some common misconceptions about accessibility resources—for instance, you may not know some of the following facts:
- Accessibility resources can be used on CAASPP and ELPAC tests without any penalty to students' scores and without affecting the school or local educational agency accountability participation rate.
- Students without individualized education programs or Section 504 plans can use accessibility resources on assessments based on educator recommendation.
- English learner students can take the science and mathematics assessments in Spanish.
- There are more than 100 accessibility resources for CAASPP and the ELPAC.
The Accessibility Resources Asynchronous Training gives participants the opportunity to train anytime, at their own pace, and around their own schedule. The training has two modules where participants learn about Matching Accessibility Resources to Students' Needs (Module A) and Using Accessibility Resources in Daily Instruction (Module B). Each module is expected to take between one to two hours to complete.
Both modules are available now and free of charge for all California educators and administrators. Educators are encouraged to share this training with special education specialists, curriculum coordinators, multilingual specialists, teachers on special assignment, and anyone else who may benefit from this training.
Later this fall, there will also be live, hands-on training sessions held via Zoom to assist with applying what was learned from the asynchronous modules. To get the most out of the live sessions in the fall, participants will be expected to complete the asynchronous modules beforehand.
Questions regarding registration for this virtual training should be directed to the California Outreach Team by email at caloutreach@ets.org.
Sincerely,
California Outreach Team
